Foam Hands

We had 4lb and 8lb foam components on hand, both from US Composities.

Paraffin wax was melted in a large cooker to 120 degrees. Daring participants lubed up with Vaseline and dipped multiple times in the hot wax to build up a strong base/mold.

These good looking gents display their coated hands. Once cooled, everyone wiggled out of their molds.

Here is a good picture of a set of wax molds.

Casting resin was used to coat the inside of the wax molds, to create a protective shell before pouring the foam into the molds.

Resin was poured into the molds, coating the inside by swishing the liquid around and around inside the mold. This picture shows a red dye being used.

Two part compounds - careful measuring and mixing. Here the liquid foam parts are being mixed.

The liquid mixture was use to fill the finger tips only. A 1 inch PVC pipe was inserted into the expanding foam to provide a means to attach the hand to something.

We had a little bit of foam overflow.

These hands were coated with a white resin.

This picture shows the hands trimmed of excess foam.

Male Torso

A store boughten plastic mannequin torso was used as the mold. Spray on cooking oil (Pam) was used to coat the mold and act as a release for the foam. The first series of foam mixtures were used to build up the base of the mold. A PVC "cross" was constructed to act as the final support of the torso to later be attached to a PCV frame.

Packing peanuts were used as filler to save on the amount of two part foam needed to build out the mold.

This picture shows the final build up, expansion, and hardening of the mixture.

Final product.
